Steal vs. Splurge: Black Suede Leather Over the Knee Boots

Stuart Weitzman boots

Splurge: Stuart Weitzman Lowland Women’s Over the Knee Boots ($785)

This time of year, one of the many things I wish for is a fabulous designer pair of suede over the knee boots.  I just love how they can be sexy without revealing anything at all. Plus, they’re super warm and go with almost everything. This fashionable dichotomy is what makes OTK boots a staple in every woman’s wardrobe. Lately, I’ve had my eye on the “Lowland” over the knee boots by Stuart Weitzman. However, with a price tag of over $700, they are regretfully not a part of my winter wardrobe.

Knowing that a number of fellow fashionistas were being faced with the same footwear dilemma, I decided to search for a more affordable pair. During my search, I found a practically identical pair for nearly a third of the price at Goodnight Macaroon. Happy holidays (and shopping) to boot lovers everywhere!

Inkkas Kickstarter Collection Giveaway!

I often find that some of the most beautiful and unique designs are made by eco and socially conscious brands. Inkkas, a custom-made brand of shoes handcrafted at a family-owned workshop in Lima, Peru is currently looking to raise funds to bring the company’s fall line to the U.S. market. In addition to bringing genuine South American shoes to the U.S., a portion of all proceeds are donated to local South American communities to help protect the Amazon rainforest and its’ native inhabitants. Since I love a good cause and original design, I’m giving away a pair of Inkkas from their 2013 collection. Here are the options:

Slate Slip Ons

Leather Midtop Montezuma

Cotton Candy

Cotton Candy Slip On

Leather Midtop Desert

Socks with Heels and Brightly Colored Shoes

Lately, I have been noticing some crazy pre-fall shoe trends including this Alice in Wonderland style of wearing heels or short boots with an eye-catching pair of high socks.  The previously taboo “heels and socks” look is prominent in ALDO‘s fall 2011 advertising campaign modeled by Lily Donaldson and photographed by Terry Richardson.  I never thought I would like this. But, with the pictures I have been seeing and the occasional person I have been spotting on Fifth Ave. sporting this look, I am kind of digging it. Admittedly, not everyone can pull it off. But, if you can, you are bound to be showered with compliments. Personally, I really don’t know why this look has been considered a fashion faux pas for so long. It’s actually cute and functions are a fashionable way to keep your feet warm in your heels once the weather begins to change.

If you aren’t daring enough to put on a pair of crazy socks under your heels, which I’m not sure if I am, another combo that I see being popular this season are bright colors on black.  I’m really liking the idea of an all black evening outfit with black tights complimented by a neon colored heel.  This look can also be achieved by shopping at ALDO. Whatever you are thinking for the fall, I highly recommend ALDO for your shoe/boot needs. I can honestly say they are the most comfortable shoes on the market.

After Party Flats are Flat Out Amazing

The first rule of New York City is “Never go barefoot.”  But, after a long night out on the town in a city that glorifies both tall buildings and 6-inch heels, you are going to want to do the unthinkable and walk the streets of Manhattan with shoes in hand.  Like most rules here in the Big Apple, the barefoot rule was meant to be broken.  While you might have begun the evening looking like a princess in $700 Louboutin heels, the higher the heel the more likely you are to end the night barefoot as a pauper.

The invention of After Party Flats may just have saved me and millions of other stylish socialites from an incurable foot disease.  The concept is both simple and stylish making them a total socialite staple. All you do is fold up an adorable pair of ballet flats that coordinate with the night’s outfit and slip them in your bag.  When you can no longer handle the agony of your killer heels, pull the switch.  Just remember to find a safe place to store those fabulous Louboutins.  Your newly found comfort is bound to result in a much longer evening in the city that never sleeps.  So get yourself a pair of after party flats because even socialites can’t afford to sell their sole.
